The founder of the Mughal empire was Babur. He ruled from 1483 to 1530. Babur was not fully a Mongol, his mother was descended from Genghis Khan, but his father had origins from Timur. When he died in 1530,he conquered all of Hindustan and controlled an empire that extended from Deccan to turkey. At this time the Mughal's ruled most of North India and much of the interior. Babur was the main start to the Mughal Empire, he was the first to create their origins.
Besides Babur, there were 3 other great Mughal rulers; Jehangir (1605-1627), Shajahan(1627-1658), Aurangzeb(1658-1707)
During Jahangir's war a crisis occurred that put the empire into a finical debt. This caused the wars of peasant resistance, heavy tax on the peasants, and the collapse of alliance with Hindu wars. This caused the Mughal empire to collapse and the arrival of Portuguese which caused the separation of political and economical elites. The empire finally ended around the 1850's.
