1525- Babur set out to conquer India and succeeded.
1526- Mughal Empire founded. A new government was established called the Delhi sultanate.
1556- Akbar the Great took the throne and promoted religious tolerance.
1605- Mughals ruled most of north India and much of the interior. Akbar died and Jahangir became king.
1628- Shah Jahan took the throne and his reign was the golden period of Muslim art and architecture.
1657- Shah Jahan grew ill, but miraculously recovered. Shortly after his son Aurangzeb captured and locked him up.
1658 to 1707- Aurangzeb then killed his rivals and declared himself the emperor. During his reign, the empire grew to its largest it's ever been. Later, he came into conflict with the Sikhs who supported a rebellion against him.
